  1. A warm smile filled my face as i told my mom that i hadn't been at my friends house all day when she had told me not to. Apparently a black cat had crossed my path because i forgot a minor detail, she had installed a camera that had the zoom of a magnifying glass on the front door to make sure i didn't leave when i wasn't supposed to. It was a pleasant morning, around three am and I was leaving the house as I did almost faithfully every day to go hang out with my friends because my mom wouldn't let me go out during the day because I had a habit of lying to her about where i was going.

  2. In the past few days, I’ve gained a faithful companion. It’s a black cat. She’s been following me home from school every single day for the past week. It’s weird though, every time I get to my house she disappears. I’ve tried looking for her, but she just up and vanishes. Today I’m going to try to follow her.
I leave school at three o’clock, like always, and I see her sitting right on the corner under a faded stop sign. She gives me a warm smile as I pass her continuing on my usual route to my house. I can hear the pitter patter of her feet behind me so I know she’s following me once again. After a few blocks, I get to my house and turn quickly around to see the last of her tail slip around a corner. I run trying to catch up to her. I try to have my feet as quiet as possible to not alert her that I’m following, but I end up stepping on a magnifying glass. She turns around and faces me. The pleasant smile that was on her face is no longer there. It seems she has a habit of lying. Who is this cat? I scream and run back to my house hoping I never see her again.

  3. The girl had a habit of lying. She didn't see it as lying though, she saw it as telling a story. She always wore a warm pleasant smile as she walked with a small magnifying glass, looking for her next story. She wandered into the snowy forest in search of something new. The girl jumped over rocks and ducked under branches. She stops and leans up against a tree to catch her breath. A branch snaps from above her and she looks up. She sees a small black cat. She smiles as it climbs down the tree. She picks it up after it lands on the ground. She then turns around and faithfully heads home with something new.

  4. Spook is a young black cat who loves to nap. He has a habit of lying down and dozing off in any spot that has been pleasantly warmed by the afternoon sun. One afternoon, Spook notices that a window sill has been heated and is the perfect spot for a snooze. He curls up on the thin ledge and lets sleep’s warm smile wrap around him like a fuzzy blanket. As Spook sleeps, he has a horrid dream that the window pane becomes a magnifying glass. As the sun’s rays shine through, they scorch Spook’s back and cause his fur to smoke. Spook awakens with a screeching growl and raised hair. He realizes that it was only a dream but he can still feel the memory of the fire burning along his spine. Spook doesn’t trust that the nightmare won’t come true and he won’t take any risks. He hops off the sill and faithfully makes his way to the chilled living room with the smooth black couch. Sometimes the cool leather is exactly what he needs to calm his fiery imagination.

  5. I’ve always had a habit of lying to my parents, and that is why they always have a magnifying glass over me to make sure I was doing nothing wrong. My parents do not like it when I go and spend money at the Conoco station on lottery tickets. One day a few years ago, I thought “Hey, what the heck,” and decided to go down there and buy one. I won $75 that pleasant day. I remember on my way back home that day, I saw a black cat dart across the road, right in front of a car. The car swerved out of the way of the cat, but onto the sidewalk where I was walking. Luckily, it missed me by a few inches. I have been faithfully gambling on those tickets for the last few years now, but I have never once won since that first day. The nice old man at the counter welcomed me with a warm smile when I entered the station earlier today. “Ready to try again Eric?” he said. “You already know I am,” I said with a grin. -Isaac Martin

  6. All of my life I have had a bad habit of lying. Just little white lies, of course. It always seems to get me in a lot of trouble. I would always lie to my mom about cleaning my room. She was always understanding and gave me a warm smile and said, "Emma I know your lying." I would always lie to my teachers about having my homework done. They probably don't consider me a pleasant student, because of all the late work slips they had to fill out for me. In Science class I once broke a magnifying glass and blamed it on my best friend, Blaine. Blaine and I loved to use our imagination. We had been friends since 1st grade. One day we decided to go on a real adventure with our imaginary black cat named, Kitty. Blaine, Kitty, and I began our real adventure. We went up the big hill behind my house and followed the forest trail all the way to the other side. We ended up in a town that we did not recognize. The town was small, but it was very dark and scary. The sun was beginning to go down, and our parents told us both to be home before dark. So we decided to turn around and navigate our way back home. When we got to the trail, I faithfully decided that we needed to take a right. I was correct. After walking at least 2.5 miles we made it back to my house. My mom asked, "What did you guys do today?" I laughed and said, "We just rode bikes around town." I turned to Blaine and smiled, because little white lies never hurt anyone, right?

  7. A pleasant, warm, smile spread across my face as I saw leaves cover the ground in colors of green, brown, red, and even orange. The air smelt like crisp apples and the wind sent a chill down my spine. I tightened my soft scarf around my neck to keep me warm. But as I was walking my walk down the park, I saw a black cat. The cat was skinny and had eyes as green as some of the leaves on the ground. I stared at him wistfully. This is not good. I don't need more bad luck crossing my path. But, I didn't let that stop me. The cat eventually walked off to give someone else bad luck. I faithfully kept walking my path trying to keep my head clear. I wasn't going to let a black cat ruin my day.

As I kept walking, there was a magnifying glass right in the center of my path. I was puzzled, "why would anyone randomly leave a magnifying glass here?" I thought. I picked it up. It seemed just like a normal magnifying glass...until I looked in it.

The sky was suddenly dark with pitch black clouds. Lighting made them glow and spark. The trees didn't have anymore leaves on them, there wasn't even leaves on the ground. The trees were bare and scary, the branches felt like they stretched for miles. The fall breeze was no longer a fall breeze. It was a chilling, howling wind and made my scarf seem useless. Everything seemed like it was something out of a horror movie. Lighting struck and I jumped. "Was this all because of that stupid black cat?" I thought. I turned around to find my way back home, but as I turned, I was left to see the same black cat, and right next to it, the magnifying glass that brought me to this place. I quickly grabbed the magnifying glass, the cat ran off in another direction. I looked through it and then...

I was back. The fall breeze and the crisp apple smelling air. The ground being in colors of green, brown, red, and orange once again. I took a deep breath. And looked around. The cat and magnifying glass were no where to be found...but as I was making my way back home, I could have sworn I saw green eyes flash through the bushes...but it could have also been my imagination. I needed to run home now and tell my mom all about it.

As I made my way through the door, I rushed to find my mom. I found her baking apple pie in the kitchen. I panted and started to tell everything that happened.

"Silly girl, you and that habit of lying of yours..." She said as she slid the unbaked apple pie into the oven. I sat back in chair and sighed...I wish I had never seen that black cat.

    THE END.

  8. The little neighbor girl across the street always had a habit of lying. Although you would never be guess that was the case since she always looked as innocent as she walked around with a pleasant warm smile. One day she told me that she had a pink cat. Faithfully I believed her. I thought to myself maybe they dyed the hair pink or something crazy. One day her mother had to run some errands, so she called me over to keep an eye on her daughter. A black cat greeted me at the door when I walked in. I asked the little girl, “I thought you had a pink cat.” She took out her magnifying glass and told me, “If you look closer you will see that the cat is pink.” So I did, and the cat was still black. Later on that afternoon we were playing outside and in conversation she had told me that her pink cat died the last night. So when the mother finally came home from running her errands, I told her that “I am sorry to hear about your cat passing away.” She gave me weird look and said to me “sweetie our black cat is right here.” All in all the little neighbor girl enjoyed telling fibs.

  9. Since the girl had never had a habit of lying, her parents sent her off to school with a wave and a warm smile. She began walking down her normal path to school, but for some reason felt mischievous today. She wanted to stay outside longer so instead of heading to school she went across the town to a park. She sat there for a while enjoying the pleasant sun until she saw a black cat run through the park. She took this as a sign of bad luck and quickly walked to school. She was late and missed half of science class. As she walked into class her teacher, her teacher asked where she had been. She told her that she was just running late, and the teacher marked her down for a tardy. The science teacher handed her a magnifying glass for the lab they were doing that day. The girl continued normally through all of her classes that day until school finally came to an end. She walked on home where her parents were angry and confused on why she had gotten a tardy. She explained what happened and was grounded for a week. Her parents were very upset and told her that they lost of all their faithfulness in her.

  10. A young woman by the name of Josie Maker wakes from her bed to a pleasant purr of her family’s black cat, Marbles. As a warm smile strokes her face she slowly gets up and walks down to the kitchen. Her mom had been waiting for her, it was one of those days. Josie had a habit of lying, so whatever this argument was about was going to stretch the truth someway and somehow.
“What time did you get home last night?” her mom asked abruptly.
“Jeez Mom, only 11.” Says Josie, knowing it was well past midnight when she jaunted upstairs to her room.
“Well, you have a history of lying Josie, so I’m just going to save my breath and ground you now. No cellphone. Hand it over.” she says with a stern voice and a reaching arm.
As Josie stomps up to her room like any average teenage girl, all she could think about was how her mom faithfully didn’t see her tight, revealing outfit from last night. Wow, she had gotten lucky.
She goes into her room and slams down her breakfast that she had somehow managed to get between her mom barking orders and grabs her magnifying glass. When she gets frustrated with her mom, she reads this note that her grandma had wrote her when she was a baby with this magnifying glass. A combination of bad sight and small handwriting calls for this. It talks about how mothers’ jobs are to keep their daughters safe and it makes her feel not so alone.
Josie walks downstairs and hugs her mom, because you never know when it will be the last time you get to see someone.

  11. "Hmm," I thought as I examined the portrait. I slowly pulled out my magnifying glass. "This is suspicious." In the picture, there was a family. The little girl held a black cat, the mom wore a pleasant, warm smile, and the father had on a bright red tie. "Are you playing detective again?" My Mother asked sneaking up on.
"No." I lied and hid my magnifying glass behind my back.
"Honey, you gotta stop your little habit." She scolded and clucked her tongue.
    "What habit?" I said confused.
"Your habit of lying." She answered.
"I do not have a lying issue." I defended myself.
"Oh, whatever, I can't stay mad at my little detective," She laughed.
"I can." My father said walking towards us.
    "DAD!" I yelled excitedly.
"Hey princess!" He ruffled my hair.
"CATCH MEEEE!" I yelled as I fell faithfully into his arms, no doubt he wouldn't catch me.
He let out an oof, as I fell into him. "You're getting to big." He chuckled.
I turned to my Mom, "I'm hungry."
    "Me too," Mom said.
"Me three!" my Dad said patting his stomach.
"Cookie time!" We all yelled and ran for the kitchen.
    THE END

  13. I awoke one day to a warm smile and a pleasant hug from my little brother, " I'm going to school" he yelled as he ran out the door. I chuckled as I started to walk to the basement to study some mythical beings that were thought to have never existed. I was in my sophomore year of college but my teacher had entrusted me to study these magnificent creatures known as fairies and believe me they are not how people think they are, Tinkerbell is all wrong. They are very mischievous and have a terrible habit of lying, I have found them hunting cats but their main goal is to kill a black cat. In their culture one who kills a black cat shall have good fortune and luck for the rest of their lives. They are also very faithful to the queen of their tribe, asking any questions related to the tribe and the fairies will commit suicide and take their own lives. I didn't know this fact the first time I captured one and well lets just say he is no longer with us though he was very cooperative, even after death he proved to be very useful because I was able to study his body structure with my magnifying glass.

  14. It's a beautiful Saturday morning here in Nevada. I sit up in my bed, my legs still under my blue comforter, and give my dog, Jack, a warm smile.
"Let's go for a walk," I say aloud to Jack.
After I get out out of bed, I pick out a comfy outfit for the day and grab Jack's leash.
"Mom, I'm taking Jack on a walk!" I yell as I'm walking out the front door.
"Ok! Don't be gone too long Savannah!" she called back at me.
It's such a pleasant day out, and our walk seems to go by very quickly. When we're almost back home, a stray black cat crosses our path. People say that's bad luck, but I don't believe in superstitions.
We arrive home and I take Jack's leash off and go to listen turn on some music to while I make breakfast. I start to pour my bowl of oatmeal and notice that there's a gold magnifying glass on the counter.
"Mom, where did this magnifying glass come from?" I ask.
"It was Grandpa's, but he gave it to me when he sold his house to go to the nursing home," she tells me.
I bring the magnifying glass back to the kitchen and set it back on the counter. The song "Faithfully" by Journey starts playing as I put my oatmeal in the microwave. I start dancing around the kitchen and singing along. I pick up the magnifying glass and hold it like it's a microphone, singing the words into it. All of the sudden the microwave beeps and I drop the magnifying glass. I DROPPED THE MAGNIFYING GLASS. I'm going to be in so much trouble. I have a good excuse, though. I got scared. The beep terrified me. It's the microwave's fault. Then I realize how ridiculous I would sound blaming a microwave. I finally decided that I'm just going to have to lie. I have a habit of lying, and I've gotten quite good at it.
"Mom!!" I yell "Jack climbed on the counter and pushed the magnifying glass on the floor and it broke." I tell her.
She comes into the kitchen, looks at the magnifying glass on the floor, then at me.
"Savannah, Jack was in the living room on my lap."

  15. One pleasant day I was walking down the street giving a warm smile and a wave to passing cars. I was in a great mood because I had finally found my dad’s lucky magnifying glass. I was thrilled to tell him because I knew he would be so proud. However, as I was walking a black cat crossed my path. I didn’t think much of it until I remembered that that’s a sign of bad luck and my dad is very superstitious. The whole walk home I was very nervous, I didn’t know how to tell him what had happened without him getting mad. So I decided to lie. Even though I’ve had a habit of lying I thought if I kept my poker face I could slip it past him. So I walked into the house and told him my lie very unfaithfully. I said I found his magnifying glass and then came straight home. My little fib didn’t last long as he could see right through my words. He asked me what had happened so I told him the truth. He wasn’t mad just disappointed that I didn’t tell the truth.

  16. When I was younger, I had a habit of lying, I thought that it was so cool that I could get away with lying that any time that I did get away with it, I would always wear a warm smile. In our house there was this magnifying glass that my siblings and I would burn things with. One day I was finally able to try it, I didn’t know that my brothers thumb was under the glass and the sun hit the glass and burned my brothers middle finger. My parents came running outside to see why Zach was screaming; they looked at his hand and saw that Zach was burned. My father started freaking at me, but my mother softly asked me, “why did you burn your brother Natalie?” I told her that I saw a black cat that I thought looked pleasant just sitting on the black top and I guess I wasn’t paying attention. My brother gave me a hug and said “ you should be happy that I like you.” My sister Cierra said to me, “don’t worry, I just found out that Zach isn’t being faithfully truthful with his buddies.”
